Black soldier fly protein, the kind of protein in ALT-PRO, has a much smaller footprint. One life cycle assessment found 78% lower CO₂ emissions than poultry meal, 99.6% less land than pea protein and 21% less water than soy protein concentrate, per kg of protein.
