How is ALT‑PRO different from the food my dog eats now?
Short answer: if your dog is doing well on their current food, you don't need to switch. ALT-PRO is for dogs whose food isn't working for them, especially dogs with itchy skin or an upset tummy that may come from common proteins like chicken, beef, lamb or dairy.
The real difference is the protein
Most dog foods are built on chicken, beef, lamb or fish. Ours uses a hypoallergenic novel protein: insect protein (black soldier fly larvae). "Novel" means most dogs have never eaten it, so a dog that reacts to the usual proteins has nothing to react to here.
- No chicken, beef, lamb or dairy.
- Our Daily Recipe is legume-free (no peas, lentils or chickpeas).
- It is not grain-free: it contains oats, brown rice and buckwheat for digestible energy and fibre. If your dog needs grain-free food, the food isn't for them, but our soft chews are grain-free.
Is it complete nutrition?
Yes, for adult dogs. Our Daily Recipe is formulated to meet the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for adult maintenance. It is not made for puppies, or for pregnant or nursing dogs.

Made in Canada. Over 90% of our ingredients are sourced in Canada, and our insect protein comes from Enterra, a Canadian producer.
If your dog is on a vet diet
ALT-PRO is not a prescription or therapeutic diet. If your vet has put your dog on one, please talk to them before switching.
How to switch
Mix it into the current food over 7 days, or 10 days if your dog has a sensitive stomach. You can also feed ALT-PRO alongside another food: for breakfast only, or as 25 to 75% of the bowl.
If it doesn't work out
If your dog doesn't like it, we refund you, and you don't need to send it back. How returns work.
