Will ALT‑PRO work for my dog?

Last updated

Short answer: ALT-PRO is made for adult dogs who react to common proteins like chicken, beef, lamb or dairy. Find your dog's situation below. If it isn't here, email us at info@altproadvantage.ca and we'll tell you honestly.

Itchy skin, paw licking or ear trouble

If a common protein is the trigger, a novel protein avoids it. Skin takes longer to settle than a tummy, so give it several weeks. If your vet is running a food trial, ask them how long to try it for. Our Healthy Skin & Coat soft chews add omega fatty acids for the coat.

Sensitive stomach or loose stools

Switch slowly, over 10 days rather than 7, mixing a little more ALT-PRO into the old food each day. Our Prebiotic Boost soft chews add prebiotic fibre for digestion.

Picky eaters

Before launch we tested our recipes with hundreds of dogs, from picky eaters to dogs who eat anything, and kept the one they liked most. If yours still turns their nose up, you get a refund and don't need to send the food back.

Stressed or anxious dogs

Our Calming Care biscuits contain chamomile and ashwagandha to promote relaxation. Don't give them to pregnant or nursing dogs.

Puppies

Treats: yes, at any age. Food: not yet. Our Daily Recipe is for adult maintenance, so it's best for dogs that have stopped growing, usually from 12 to 18 months old.

Senior dogs

Our food is formulated for adult maintenance. There isn't a senior-specific recipe yet. If your older dog has a health condition, check with your vet first.

Pregnant or nursing dogs

Not the food, which isn't formulated for growth or reproduction. And not the Calming Care biscuits (chamomile and ashwagandha).

Dogs with a shellfish allergy

Don't feed ALT-PRO without talking to your vet. Dogs, and people, with a shellfish allergy may react to edible insects.

Dogs that need grain-free food

Our Daily Recipe contains oats, brown rice and buckwheat, so it isn't grain-free. Our soft chews are grain-free.

Dogs on a prescription diet

ALT-PRO isn't a prescription diet. Please ask your vet before changing anything.
